Joanne is a media education consultant and film festival programmer with 20+ years experience in educational outreach, audience engagement, curriculum development, youth media, and children’s and documentary film. She recently joined Big Picture Educational Consulting as a partner, working on resource development and outreach for a wide range of film projects. She previously served as the Director of Education for the San Francisco Film Society, where she developed a series of innovative programs serving >10,000 K-college students and teachers each year, cultivating media literacy and filmmaking skills. She has directed the Mill Valley Film Festival’s Children’s FilmFest, curated children’s programs for the Pacific Film Archive and the Boston Museum of Fine Art, and is a programming consultant for LUNAFEST. She joined the Board of Directors of the National Association of Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) in 2015 and is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Michigan.
