“Rick” Perez oversees a portfolio of Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program (DFP) partnerships and collaborations including “Stories of Change”, a Sundance Institute partnership with Skoll Foundation, the Sundance Institute TED Prize Filmmaker Award, and the Sundance | CNEX Documentary Workshop in Beijing. Mr. Perez also participates in all DFP programmatic activity including reviewing submission to the Sundance Documentary Film Fund and representing the DFP at domestic and global documentary film festivals, markets and forums.
In addition to his work at Sundance Institute, Mr. Perez Executive Produced and Directed the feature documentary, “Cesar’s Last Fast”, a film about American civil and labor rights leader Cesar E. Chavez that premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Prior to joining the DFP staff Mr. Perez was an Executive Producer at Brave New Films where he executive produced two documentary series, and directed and produced a third. Richard Ray Perez is a native of Los Angeles and holds a bachelor of the arts degree from Harvard University.
